February 2012
Dear Friends:
“Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.”
2 Corinthians 3: 17
A new year is a fresh start. It is a possibility to reflect the last year and make changes for this year. Why? Because God provided us with freedom. Our free will is one of our most valuable and powerful gifts. We know that with great power comes great responsibility. Therefore teaching to act responsibly is part of the education we offer at the Christus Academy.
Just after the Christmas break a representative of Teddy Bear Portraits came in and took pictures of all our students. The seniors had theirs taken in cap and gown. That showed us once more how close we are to the graduation of our first class of seniors.
At the end of January we finished the first semester and our students took their midterm exams. Those were three days of ongoing intense tests. Comparing the grades both students and teachers see the result of half a year of hard work. Many of the results may be rewarding, others encouraging and some revealing, but all of them are valuable because they reflect the progress of the past semester and provide the opportunity to make changes for the second semester. It is a fresh start. Let’s choose to work on our weaknesses. Let’s decide to excel in class. Let’s make the choice to improve what went wrong during the last semester. Let’s use the freedom that God gave us to make this the best year of our lives. Because we can.
We want to thank all our supporters for their generous donations. Their help provided us recently with the opportunity to buy a projector that frequently is used in class. But most important they keep the school running for three and a half years now.
For our third quarter, that started end of January, two law students from Rutgers University, Martha Nye and Aimee Schprechman, joined our staff. They teach Constitutional Law to all our juniors and seniors.
We are grateful to have this many committed volunteers on our staff and the ongoing support caring people.
Yours in Christ,
Jonas
